FREDERICKSBURG — The Faith Academy tennis team continued its success on the courts by winning three first place titles and third place overall at the 2010 Battlin’ Billie Tournament Feb. 18. Seniors Deanna Hoover and Taylor Hicks won first place in girls doubles by beating a team from Floresville, 8-6, in the finals.

Sophomore Kristen Lookabaugh and senior Melanie Fortenberry won their first match against Ingram in a tiebreaker but lost to Boerne, 1-8, in the semifinals. They defeated Fredericksburg, 8-3, to finish in third place.

In boys doubles, seniors Nathan and Travis Michie beat San Saba, 8-1, Fredericksburg, 8-5, Boerne, 8-4, and Cedar Park, 8-2, in the finals to win first place.

Also winning the first place medal were freshman Nicole Johnson and junior Jordan Bland in mixed doubles competition. They beat Kerrville Tivy, 8-3, Medina, 8-5, and Mason, 8-6, in the finals.

Freshman Jonelle Frazier and junior Wyatt Clendennen competed in mixed doubles.

In boys singles, freshman Keenan Lewis and junior Tyler Cantlon lost close matches.

Senior John Bennett and freshman Trey Cherry competed in boys doubles, but did not place.

Faith Academy will host Fredericksburg Heritage today at 3:30 p.m. and Austin St. Michael’s immediately following at 6 p.m. for a fun “Friday Night Lights” match. Matches are at the Horseshoe Bay Resort, 200 Hi Circle North in Horseshoe Bay.

St. Michaels is not in the same district as Faith Academy because it competes in Class 4A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, while Faith Academy is in Class 2A, and Fredericksburg Heritage is Class 1A.

Faith Academy will host San Antonio Lutheran, Temple Holy Trinity and Bracken Christian Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Horseshoe Bay Resort for its first district match.
