Fund set up for family of Granite Shoals fire chief after blaze at home in Meadowlakes

MEADOWLAKES — Friends have set up a fund for the Granite Shoals fire chief and his family to help replace possessions lost due to smoke and water damage during a blaze at their home Aug. 28.

The fire in the 200 block of Chaparral, which broke out about 12:45 p.m., damaged a side of the dwelling and the roof, as well many of the family’s belongings from smoke and water inside, officials said.

A woman and a child were at home, but officials said they weren’t injured. Neighbors said the home is the residence of Austin Stanphill, chief of the Granite Shoals Fire Department.

An account at Anthem Bank & Trust, 8110 RR 1431 West in Granite Shoals, has been established to help the family, friends said Aug. 29. The bank was formally known as Texas Country Bank.

“We’re taking any kind of donations — clothes, food, toys, anything,” said Ann Wilson, who is helping the relief effort. “Things that didn’t burn are still probably not salvageable because of the smoke and water damage.”

Donations can be made at the bank during lobby hours — 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Donors can also call the bank for information at (830) 598-4444, or the Granite Shoals Fire Department, 8410 RR 1431 West, at (830) 596-8110.

“There is light smoke and some water damage on the interior,” said Terry White, chief of the Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department. “As far as the origin, we’re still looking at that. It’s unknown at this time.”

White said the fire started outside on a patio and moved up the siding and then to the roof.

First responders rushing to the gated community included the Marble Falls volunteers, Marble Falls Fire Rescue, Granite Shoals, Horseshoe Bay Fire Department, the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department and Burnet County deputies.
