While local governments in Burnet County try to provide law enforcement agencies with the best gear possible, the needs are sometimes just outside the scope of their budgets.

That’s where the Burnet County Friends of the NRA, part of the NRA Foundation, comes in. It holds fundraising campaigns such as the upcoming raffle and Wall of Guns drawing at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 21, at Rods, Barrels & Strings, 1300 U.S. 281, Suite 110, in Marble Falls.

The raffle for a Ruger Precision Rifle .338 Lapua Magnum is sold out, but people can still participate in the ever-popular Wall of Guns.

During the event, the Friends group will offer 54 cards at $20 each with a chance for the holders to win one of the firearms on the Wall of Guns. It’s a popular event, so anyone interested in getting a card should arrive early.

Much, if not most, of the funding raised in Burnet County returns to the local communities through grants to law enforcement agencies and youth shooting sports programs. In past years, the Burnet County Friends of the NRA has helped provide grants to the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office for sidearms and secure storage in vehicles, the Granite Shoals Police Department for ballistic helmets and firearms, the Burnet Police Department for rifles, the Marble Falls Police Department for ballistic vests;,and the Burnet County 4-H for rifles for the shooting team.

All firearms won during the Saturday raffle and Wall of Guns will be transferred through a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer.

  1. TrueTexan, only a fool does not understand the value and necessity of the 2nd Amendment and the NRA. Go back to sleep…

    1. No sir, the friends of the NRA believe in the constitution and its amendments. That includes all of them we don’t pick and choose. You’re practicing your first amendment rights with childish and asinine comments – and I will fight for your right to do so. Will you fight for every citizen’s right to have A firearm? The amendment was placed there by our forefathers -who, am sure – we’re much more intelligent and wiser wiser than you, to protect The citizens of the United States of America from our government becoming tyrannical. If you will remeber the British Crown placred oppressive taxes on the commoners and ruled with a tyrannical hand at that time and our Forefathers came here along with there firearms and They Used these weapons for war against the British Soilders, winning our independence from Britain and its oppressive government and then set out to give us a way tto prevent that from happening in the future here. . But instead of researching facts you just try to make the NRA sound like a bunch of Nazi soldiers which is quite idiotic. Tell you what True Texan (obviously a pen name chosen because you were lucky enough to be born here but your genetic code must lack any DNA that most of us Texans contain, along with determination, honor, self reliance, a a little thing here we call grit. Please call me at my place of business -Fry Equine Health 830-693-7899- and I will pay for your ticket to go to the NRA function and buy you dinner and sit next to you- and you tell me if we have any Nazi goose-stepping going on or if it’s families that still have the blood of our forefathers running through their veins and aren’t afraid s to stand up for the rights of the people- all people- not just the wealthy. Hoping to never need to fight and never wanting a no fight When it can be solved with intelligent thought and communication- but willing to if need be. I think it will be quite an eye-opener to attend the eventTrue Texan- all costs on me- What do you say? This time think before you say it. There are over 6 million of us and we are neither Terrorists or “Want to be Navy Seals” and we don’t goose step. We are normal every day Americans go to work and pay their taxes for a proper country some others believe in God but we all believe in the Constitution and the amendments of the United States of America and don’t like uninformed small town Small minded inflammatory comments wen they are lucky enough to have a job who’s owner believes in the right to free speech. I’m sure it is because you’re an editorial commentator because the other people at the newspaper journalist triy o report facts not their personal feelings. You need to research If you don’t know facts because we don’t give a damn about your feelings. I will say this True Texan – you do remind me of the state bird, the Mockingbird- I have many around my home just outside of Smithwick. Great orators they are- they have commanding voices and make some of the smoothest sounds and some of the roughest;; , but we all know they never had their own voice they just copy whatever other little birds say. Why don’t you grow up and try to be an eagle? Do you not try to improve yourself because they are endangered and your chances of living as an eagle to old age are reduced so that makes you afraid?? Or is it simply because it’s easier to recite nonsense you’ve heard with no strength of constitution and prefer just to Cluck the nonsense of a chicken like the others? This land was not paid for with insults and ill-informed decisions based on ones personal weak spined ‘feeling” – it was paid for by the blood of our fathers and their fathers, and those fathers fathers. Why don’t you stand up for something quietly — passionately- with true strength and inward fortitude instead of hurling schoolboy nonsense just so you will fit in with the other clucking. Banny Roosters. Nobody really cares what the Banny Rooster is lying to himself and others about- take care with the eagle soaring high above on his own strength is thinking about. He matters, the rooster is Sunday dinner and forgotten. I look forward to taking you to the NRA banquet and having you as a guest at my table – I’m sure we will have an eye-opening fun evening for both of us.

      Sincerely

      David FrY DVM
