Pizza Hut fundraiser Aug. 6 benefits Marble Falls Area VFD

MARBLE FALLS — On Aug. 6, if you stop by the Pizza Hut in Marble Falls, you just might find the person taking care of your table or greeting you is wearing a Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department uniform instead of the standard Pizza Hut attire.
“We pretty much taking over the place during these fundraisers,” said assistant chief George Tennison. “We’ll be in there doing just about everything, unless we’re out on a call.”
The Marble Falls Area VFD members might not do the actual cooking, but they’ll be on hand to help out in just about every other way. Pizza Hut is donating 20 percent of diners’ tickets of $15 or more during the Aug. 6 fundraiser. But folks do need to have a MFAVFD flier for the event to take advantage of it.
“Yeah, you need the flier,” Tennison said.
People can pick up fliers at the station, 600 Ave. U in Marble Falls; by emailing the agency at mfavfd@nctv.com; or by calling (830) 637-7128. Many of the volunteer members also might be carrying fliers with them.
While the Marble Falls Area VFD gets financial support through Emergency Services District No. 6, Tennison explained that the ESD is only a few years out of the gate and still getting its feet on the ground. The ESD provides for the department’s budget, but there are still some things the department needs.
“Fundraisers like the Pizza Hut one help us pay for things the ESD can’t right now,” Tennison said.
Recently, the department purchased a $10,000 thermal imager out of money raised through events such as the Pizza Hut one.
“It helps fill in where we need it, these fundraisers,” Tennison said.
Plus, the events such as this one and the annual bull riding event in May help get the department out in front of the public. Tennison pointed out that people still think the Marble Falls Area VFD is part of or the same as Marble Falls Fire Rescue, which is a city of Marble Falls department.
“So a lot of it is just public relations and getting out and visiting with people so they know who we are,” the assistant chief said. “We’ll be shaking hands and talking with folks during the Pizza Hut fundraiser.”
And while it’s a great chance to chat with the volunteer firefighters, don’t let them talk too long or your pizza might get cold. Go to mfavfd.org for more information on the Marble Falls Area VFD.
