FROM STAFF REPORTS
CEDAR PARK — The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team scored two unanswered goals in the second half to complete a District 51-4A sweep of Cedar Park with a 2-1 win Feb. 28.
The Mustangs (11-5-1 overall, 4-3 district) defeated the Timberwolves 3-2 on Feb. 12 for the first time in program history. Now, they have their first-ever sweep of Cedar Park.
The Mustangs scored the winning goal with seven minutes left.
“We never give up,” Marble Falls head coach Rick Hoover said. “(The win was ) nice, but (we have) bigger goals. (We) need to secure a playoff spot and get ready for second season.”

MARBLE FALLS— The Marble Falls girls soccer team lost 2-1 to Cedar Park on Feb. 28 in District 51-4A action.
The Lady Mustangs are 7-6-5 overall and 1-6 in district.
The Lady Timberwolves scored their first goal in the final five minutes of the first half.
Marble Falls freshman Sydney Gibson tied the game when she found the back of the net on a ricochet off a free kick by junior Shelbi Wyatt with 12 minutes 24 seconds remaining in the contest.
But almost five minutes later, Cedar Park took the lead for good when the Lady Timberwolves ran down a ball that was kicked off by their goalie. Forwards outran defenders to get to the ball, which was kicked off the right post and went into the net.
Still, Lady Mustangs head coach Trey Young complimented his players, noting it was easy for them to mentally stop playing after Cedar Park scored the first goal.
“We’ve been talking about having a positive reaction,” he said. “We continued to perform really well. We kept our composure.”
Marble Falls’ season is one of growing, Young said. For the underclassmen, it’s getting used to the speed and physicality of facing players who are older and have spent more time in weight and conditioning. For the upperclassmen, it’s one of staying positive and not giving up when games are simply not going their way.
“We have no seniors,” Young said. “We start three freshmen. I didn’t plan to carry freshmen. I’m a big believer in letting them develop. The fact is now we’re playing a lot of young girls. And our older girls are growing in leadership.”
ON OFFENSE: goal – Sydney Gibson.
