Six 19th century churches are still serving congregations in Llano County and are stops on a Historic Church Tour on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Llano County Historical Commission is conducting the free tour from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The tour includes in-depth presentations of the region’s rich, religious roots. Those interested should make reservations by calling 325-423-2581.

Many of the churches on the tour were built in the late 19th century, when Llano County was still in the midst of its Wild West era, said Historical Commission member Virginia Walker.

“What’s so cool, I think, is that members of these congregations are descendants from the original founders,” she said.

The first 25 tour applicants will be provided free transportation. Others can follow along in their own vehicles. A free, light lunch will be served by the commission, but donations are appreciated.
Docents will be stationed along the tour to give presentations on the history, tradition, and cultures of the churches they represent.
