Cottonwood Shores has opened its boat launch and adjacent dock area at 3729 Lakeview Drive for 24-hour access, allowing residents and visitors to launch boats and fish at any time.

The Cottonwood Shores City Council amended its parks ordinance during its Thursday, Oct. 15, meeting following resident feedback, creating an exception to the city’s 10 p.m. park curfew.

“City Council believes the expanded hours and addition of fishing opportunities will make Cottonwood Shores an even more attractive destination,” J.C. Hughes told DailyTrib.

The curfew was originally adopted in response to illegal nighttime activity in city parks but did not account for boaters and anglers seeking access after hours.

“There were some safety issues involved,” Police Chief Johnny Liendo said during the meeting. “At that time, we only had one or two officers and we weren’t 24/7.”

Liendo said the department now has the staffing to monitor the area.

The city’s parks will continue to close at 10 p.m., with law enforcement patrolling to ensure compliance with the ordinance.
