Nearly seven months after closing its doors, longtime Buchanan Dam bar Fuzzy’s Corner is making a comeback under new ownership, with a grand opening set for noon on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The bar, at 15224 E. Texas 29 near the intersection of Texas 29 and RR 1431, closed Feb. 27 after decades in business. At the time, then-bar manager Amanda Barnett told DailyTrib that Fuzzy’s future was uncertain and, based on her understanding of the new ownership, the bar almost certainly would not reopen.

The location has since been renovated and will reopen with pool tables, dartboards, skill games, shuffleboard and TVs. A food truck and karaoke are planned for the future, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Buchanan Dam Chamber of Commerce is set for October, according to social media posts.

Fuzzy’s closed after 81-year-old operator Rayford Burnham chose not to renew his lease for health reasons at his family’s request. The property owner reportedly sold the lot and building following Burnham’s decision.

The bar had operated at its Buchanan Dam location since the early 1970s, becoming such a fixture that locals commonly refer to the Texas 29-RR 1431 intersection as “Fuzzy’s Corner.”

The name, however, predates the Buchanan Dam location. Fuzzy’s first opened in the early 1950s in a corner of the Pinkie’s Grocery building at the TX 16/TX 29 intersection in Llano. It was named after original owner John Thomas “Fuzzy” Walker.
