Back to school events to start the school year right

The summer may just be heating up, but organizations and businesses across the Highland Lakes are already prepping to give back to local students before the school year begins in August.

Students in the Burnet Consolidated, Llano, and Marble Falls independent school districts will return to the classroom on Aug. 12, 13, and 19, respectively, but there’s still time to nab some free goodies, enjoy fun activities, and take advantage of these back-to-school events before class is back in session.

Kingsland Chamber and Camp Buckner School Supply Drive

When: July 1-31

Where: Camp Buckner, 2825 FM 2342 in Burnet, or Kingsland Chamber, 1309 RR 1431 in Kingsland

What: The Kingsland Chamber of Commerce and Camp Buckner are partnering for the entire month of July to host a school supply drive benefitting students of Llano and Burnet Consolidated ISDs. Be sure to drop off any extra notebooks, pens, No. 2 pencils, backpacks, crayons, markers, binders, folders, calculators, glue sticks, and scissors to help students start the year off right.

Back to School BLAST

When: 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1

Where: Marble Falls Middle School, 1511 Pony Circle in Marble Falls

What: Students around the Highland Lakes are invited to stop by the Back to School BLAST to pick up free school supplies, enjoy a festive atmosphere, and learn more about community resources available to them heading into the new school year. To receive free school supplies, students must be present during the event from 8-10 a.m.

Hoover Valley VFD Back To School Splash

When: noon-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1

Where: Hoover Valley VFD, 303 CR 118B in Burnet

What: Cool off one last time this summer at this splash event hosted by the Hoover Valley VFD, bringing cool activities, free school supplies and food, and fun for students before the beginning of the school year.

AquaBoom Freedom to Learn Project

When: through Tuesday, Aug. 4

Where: Fuel Coffee House, 106 E. Main Street in Llano, or Hill Country Stays, 1501 Sioux Trail in Kingsland

What: Miss AquaBoom is hosting a school supply drive to give back to LISD students. The most needed items are pencils, scissors, crayons, kleenex, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, ziploc bags, notebooks, and paper towels. Donations will be accepted until Aug. 4.

Briggs Back to School Bash

When: 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6

Where: Briggs Baptist, 505 Loop 308 in Briggs

What: Briggs Baptist is hosting a back to school bash in conjunction with the Briggs Community Center and Northeast Burnet County Fire/Rescue to provide students with free backpacks loaded with school supplies, hot dogs, sodas, snowcones, and a bounce house to enjoy the last weeks of summer.

BCISD Back to School Breakfast and Vendor Extravaganza

When: 7:30-8:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7

Where: Burnet High School, 1000 The Green Mile in Burnet

What: BCISD is hosting a back to school breakfast, and is inviting community businesses to join in and share their mission with students before the busy school year kicks off.

Faith Academy of Marble Falls Back to School Blast

When: 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7

Where: Faith Academy, 3151 RR 1431 in Marble Falls

What: Faith Academy of Marble Falls is hosting its Back to School Blast on Aug. 7 to give new and returning students and teachers the chance to reconnect before the school year kicks off. Food trucks and live music will be on-site during the event.

The Play Corral Little Wrangler Sponsorship Program

When: July 14-Aug. 7

Where: The Play Corral, 1001 S. Water Street Suite F in Burnet

What: The Play Corral is helping local children in need with this sponsorship event, working with community members to provide clothes, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies to youngsters before the start of the school year. Information is kept confidential, and monetary donations are accepted in place of physical donations.

Guardians of the Children School Supplies Drive

When: Saturday, Aug. 15

Where: Round Mountain Cider Mill, 222 Lee Lane in Round Mountain

What: Guardians of the Children is teaming up with Round Mountain Cider Mill, Abundant Heart Church, The Athletic Club, and Fresh AF for a community-wide school supply drive to help students get the tools they need to succeed. Donations can be dropped off at any of the businesses listed, with donations being entered into a raffle to be held at the Cider Mill on Aug. 15.
