The Burnet Municipal Airport recently turned into a weekly hot spot for local eats and treats, bringing several food trucks around the Highland Lakes to the airstrip over the last month and a half.

Spearheaded by the airport’s aviation services provider, Crosby Flying Services, local trucks have been circulating in and out of the airport each Friday since June 19, serving up fresh goods to residents from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at “Food Truck Fridays.”

The weekly event is open to the public to grab a bite and relax while watching planes on the tarmac. Pilots coming in and out of the airport are invited to join in, and can get some free soft serve before taking to the skies again.

“Pilots get a reason to fly in,” reads a post from Crosby about the event. “Flight schools and Crosby Flying Services get face time with potential students. Local vendors… get direct access to airport traffic and locals. And the community gets ‘lunch with a view.’”

Some of the trucks that have stopped by so far include Miss Vickie’s Kitchen, D’s Shaved Ice, 1836 Barbecue, and Taqueria El Gym.

Crosby plans to run the weekly event throughout the summer, with Miss Vickie’s Kitchen returning this Friday, July 24.
