On Memorial Day, a ceremony and parade in Burnet will honor and celebrate the United States’ fallen military members. Local government offices will be closed for the Monday, May 26, federal holiday, and some businesses might have affected hours.
“Memorial Day is a holiday where we remember our dead, and specifically military members who passed away,” said Sean Jones, commander of the Highland Lakes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6974 in Burnet, in an interview with KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune host Mac McClennahan. “We remember their service, we remember their sacrifice, we remember the good times and the bad. The holiday isn’t a celebration, but it is a day off, and we should enjoy it.”
The Highland Lakes VFW, Rotary Club of Burnet, Burnet Chamber of Commerce, and Patrick M. Goble American Legion Post 974 combined forces to host a fallen soldier commemoration ceremony and patriotic parade Monday. The event also includes a classic car show, free food, and military history exhibits on the Burnet courthouse square.
