Two Highland Lakes teachers received the Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Teacher Spotlight Award, which recognizes educators for their exceptional work in the classroom and community.

The award was given to six teachers in November, selected from among 250 nominations from across PEC’s service area.

The two local winners are:

  • Elizabeth Coyle, a third-grade math and science teacher at Spicewood Elementary School and swim coach at Marble Falls High School;
  • and Valerie Ullmann, an eighth-grade math teacher at Burnet Middle School.

Both received gift baskets with classroom supplies from their teacher wish lists.

“I was very honored to have won,” Ullmann said in an email to DailyTrib.com. “I received some flexible seating arrangements (bean bags), clipboards and Kleenexes!”

Nominations submitted by PEC members highlighted how each teacher goes above and beyond to make a difference in their students’ lives.

“The nominations really touched my heart, and it’s always nice to be recognized for good work,” Ullmann said.

PEC engages in several education initiatives and hosts a variety of education-based youth programs.

“Teachers are the foundation of every community, and their work is inspiring,” said PEC Community Outreach Specialist Kevyn Packer in a co-op media release announcing the awards. “This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for the educators across our service area who are making a positive impact and shaping the futures of Central Texas youth.”
