New Marble Falls Mustangs head football coach and Athletic Director Keri Timmerman plans to use his vast network of college coaching connections to help athletes continue their playing careers beyond high school.
Timmerman, whose hiring was approved by the Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees on Dec. 18, was the passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator during his three-year tenure at Leander’s Vandegrift High School.
The Vandegrift program produced dozens of college athletes during his time there, including five D1 athletes just this season.
“I promote our kids,” Timmerman told DailyTrib.com, describing his duties as recruiting coordinator. “When they go to camps in the summer, I drive up to camps so that I can get a one-on-one meeting with our kids in front of the coaches.
“Those camps typically carry 500 to 600 kids minimum,” he continued. “They tend to be what we call ‘cattle calls.’ I go where a lot of coaches don’t go.”
Timmerman relies on decades-long relationships with college recruiting coaches across the country to ensure his kids are seen by university programs.
“Because I was a head coach and I’ve done this everywhere I’ve been, I have a wide array of college coaches that are friends,” he said. “They contact me when we have players that they think could be viable for them.”
Timmerman also helps athletes build their online presence to further ensure they’re noticed by recruiters.
“I basically help our kids make a profile, Twitter page, highlights, virtual combine, and I help get their name out to recruiters,” he said.
At Marble Falls, Timmerman plans to delegate the job of recruiting coordinator to someone on his staff.
“If a major coach comes in, obviously, I’m going to deal with them because they’re going to want to know the head coach’s opinion,” he said. “What I’d like to do is develop our younger staff to be able to have that because it’s a key role for them to be able to make connections. Coaching is all about who you know.”
Timmerman also wants to reach out to student organizations, specifically the high school’s audio and visual department, to create content for athletes.
“Kids are so fluent in digital media right now. Why not use it?” he said.

Why do high schools need a recruiting coordinator? Is this what we get instead of math, science, music, history, art? Football doesn’t contribute anything to society except chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
