BURNET — A second waterline break in a week prompted city officials Jan. 29 to put several hundred residents and three school campuses on a boil water notice, according to a statement by the city of Burnet.

“Due to a water main break, all areas of the city of Burnet north of Bluebonnet Street and north of FM 963 are asked to boil water used for drinking or cooking until noon on Friday, Jan. 30,” the notice stated. “The campuses impacted by the boiled water order are R.J. Richey Elementary, Burnet Middle School and Burnet High School.”

School officials are expected to make adjustments at campuses and asked parents to send children to school with bottle water.

“Bottled water will be provided to students and staff at those campuses, but due to the lateness of the notification, we are asking that if parents are able to please send a bottle of water to school …” according to the city notice. “All school schedules will remain the same.”

The latest waterline break comes on the heels of another ruptured line, in a different location, Jan. 25. The city had received an “all clear” from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Jan. 27.

Samples are expected to be sent off to TCEQ for water quality testing after the latest waterline break and should be complete by midday Jan. 30, officials say.
