Lace up your shoes May 17 for St. Peter’s Run for the Son

DANIEL CLIFTON • PICAYUNE EDITOR

MARBLE FALLS — As a born-and-bred Lutheran, the only thing I was taught to run to was the potluck dinner line after any church-related function. So when Tracy Knight of St. Peter’s Lutheran School contacted me about an upcoming run benefitting the pre-school and kindergarten program, I envisioned a swarm of hungry Lutherans rushing for the green bean casseroles and deviled eggs.

Tracy set me straight, pointing out this actually is the third annual St. Peter’s Run for the Son 5k Race and Walk on May 17.

The school started more than 20 years ago and was the first private campus of its type in Marble Falls. It was and remains a school, not a daycare, with a Christ-centered program.

The event comes in four levels: a Kids 1k, the Run for the Son 5k Teachers/Coaches, the student 5k (ages 11-18) and the adult 5k.

And there’s actually a course laid out for runners and walkers to take during the event, which starts with the Kids 1k  at 8 a.m. followed by the 5k distances at 8:15 a.m.

The walk/run starts in the parking lot of the Double Horn Brewing Company, 208 Ave. H. No libations will be served during the event, but Double Horn will be selling some scrumptious breakfast tacos.

While it’s billed as a race, you don’t have to feel pressured to beat anyone (just those slower than you.) In fact, the walk portion is a great chance to stroll along the course and visit with other walkers. But the more competitive folks could win a prize for being first, second or third in the different divisions and age groups.

The race is open to everyone. Register at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1803 RR 1431, or www.myraceregistration.com.

Volunteers and sponsors are also needed. Contact Tracy at (830) 693-2253 or knight@splcmf.org for more information.

Whether you win or lose, think of this as great training for the mad dash for the potluck dinner line. Because if you can’t beat me there, you can’t have the last deviled egg.
