MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club invites runners to “Race Like A Champion” by participating in its first 5k run April 26. The club also created a Purple Pony Mile for children, which will be conducted before the adult race.
“I wanted to do (the 5k) last year,” race chairman David Granson said. “I do them all the time. They’re a good event, it’s fun. It’s an overall good community event. You don’t have to be an athlete. You can run or walk.”
The adult race is broken down into age groups with prizes awarded to the top three men and women in each division. Cost is $35.
The first male and female overall finishers will get $250.
“This is a first-year event,” Granson said. “We want to make it a good event. We want to attract those running out of Austin and San Antonio.”
The kids’ one-mile run is designed for children in first through fifth grades. The top three finishers will be given prizes. The race will start at 7:15 a.m. Entry fee is $20.
Granson said organizers have planned for 150 athletes.
“It’s something everybody can be involved with and have a good time,” he said.
Go to mfabc.org or the Marble Falls High School athletic office, 2101 Mustang Drive, to register.
“We’re making a big push to raise more money, get members and get more parents,” Granson said. “The golf tournament is a big event, and you miss out on some because a lot of people don’t golf. A lot of people can be involved in this, and it’s the booster club. Marble Falls supports Marble Falls athletes.”
