MARBLE FALLS — Before the final game of the 2014 season, the Marble Falls High School baseball team honored its seniors April 17.

During the 8-4 loss to Leander, head coach J.T. Blair continued the trend.

Garrett Winslett started at pitcher, his first start since District 25-4A play began. Then Domenic Patterson finished the contest.

“Those guys have won more than 40 games, some more than 50,” Blair said. “I wanted to be able to play those guys. They worked really hard and deserved to be recognized.”

The Lions led from the start, scoring a run in the first, second and third innings.

The Mustangs (10-11-3, 4-8) answered with a run in the fourth and fifth innings to trim the deficit to 3-2 but stranded five runners in the two innings.

Leander exploded for four runs in the sixth thanks to a two-run double from Zach Noska and a two-run singe from Joseph Sanchez to put the game out of reach.

Blair noted Leander simply got two hits his squad didn’t.

“That’s been the story of our year,” he said, “not being able to capitalize in those situations.”

Regarding the 12-4 loss to the Lions in game one April 15, the coach said, “Leander played well both offensively and defensively. Leander really capitalized on the opportunities they had and we weren’t able too. It was the difference in the game.”
