OBITUARY: Jimmy Johns, 68, of Bertram dies March 22, 2014

Jimmy Johns, 68, of Bertram passed away March 22, 2014, with his family at his side. He was born Oct. 19, 1945, in Leander, the fourth of seven children of Carl Johns and Ann (Collins) Johns.

Jimmy was a good husband, father, brother, son and uncle and a trusted friend to so many.

He married Martha Leach in Bertram on June 24, 1966, and they shared 40 wonderful years together until she passed away in December 2006. Their union produced one child, David, who was born Aug. 4, 1969.

Jimmy was a proud member of the Masonic lodges in Bertram and Burnet for more than 25 years. He worked as a stone mason in and around Central Texas for most of his life, took great pride in his work and, above all, cherished the satisfaction in the finished product. He loved to see the happiness in the eyes of those who hired him to do a job.

Jimmy is survived by his son, David and wife Fran of Brtram; sisters Janet Ross and Jo Ann Dodd, both of Liberty Hill; and brothers Charles of Liberty Hill and Ray of Copperas Cove. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Allen and husband Dickie of Bertram; and brothers-in-law Wayne Leach and wife Sue of Houston and Don Leach of Corpus Christi. Jimmy is also survived by many nieces and nephew and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha; sister Carlee Holbrook; and brother Wayne Johns.

A funeral service is 2 p.m. March 25 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222, with Ed Schaeffer presiding. Those named as pallbearers were Tim Stuteville, Ray Johns, Tyler Allen, Brant Holbrook, Eric Phillips and Bruce Leach.

The family is grateful for the gentle and loving care Jimmy received at the Bertram Nursing and Rehab Center.  Their dedicated staff of professional caregivers helped Jimmy and the family through his last days, and they cannot be given the proper amount of thanks.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jimmy may be made to the charity or organization of your choice.  Condolences to the family may be made at www.clementswilcoxburnet.com.
