MARBLE FALLS — It’s homecoming week for Marble Falls High School and Principal Manny Lunoff wants to help the community get pumped up for the event.

The Mustangs’ football team (2-3, 0-1 in District 25-4A) host their district home opener against Leander Rouse at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive.

Lunoff said he has students who are willing decorate area businesses and will even provide the materials to do it.

All he needs are business owners willing to participate.

“If we have businesses in the area, definitely contact me, and I can pass it on to the right people to where we can go ahead and do that,” he said. “I would love to see that for homecoming week.”

He sees this as a chance to allow the community to see the Thundering HERD motto in motion.

HERD stands for Honoring Excellence through Respect and Education.

“We always want to be respectful in everything that we do,” he said. “And we always want to make sure we’re dedicated to our efforts, we always want to sure that we know that work is going to go ahead, excellence doesn’t just come from wishing for it. You have to make sure you put that work in.”

The philosophy behind using the word “herd” is simple, the principal said.

“Herds of animals move together for a purpose by definition,” he said. “You never see one just go off by itself. The herd always knows there’s strength in numbers. And that’s what we’re there for.”

Lunoff has been told there was a time that businesses on Main Street and all over RR 1431 and U.S. 281 weren’t shy about showing their Mustang pride. And he wants to go back to that.

“We want to go ahead and paint the town,” he said. “We’d be more than happy to see what we can do, maybe student council, cheerleaders. They’re great kids and want to be involved, and they want to show that Mustang pride. So if we have people that want to get involved with that and want to support our kids, we’ll send them out your way to try to make it happen.”
