SAN ANTONIO — The Marble Falls High School girls doubles team of Ashley Stallard and Madison Dyer have advanced to the third round of the Class 4A Region IV Tournament.

The duo won their second-round match 6-0, 6-0 against a team from Medina Valley and began the tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set victory against a team from Corpus Christi Calallen.

“(Calallen) had a lot of fire power,” Marble Falls head coach Jeff Savage said. “Our girls did a great job of redirecting power at them. They simply just outplayed their opponent.”

The second match was much different.

“The girls played incredibly well,” Savage said. “They blew the other team out of the water. It was a pretty quick match. The girls played a solid, textbook match and, basically, controlled every aspect of the game.”

The Lady Mustangs advanced to the semifinals and face the No. 1-seeded Alamo Heights team at 9 a.m. April 17 at the Blossom Center, 722 Isom Road.

Leander Vandegrift is seeded No. 3 and will face the No. 2-seeded Boerne Champion team.

To advance to the Class 4A state tournament, Marble Falls needs to win both their semifinals and finals matches.

But if they lose their semifinals match and win their consolation-round finals match, the duo could face the loser of the championship match in a playback contest — if the Lady Mustangs haven’t lost to both title-match opponents.

If Marble Falls beats the title-match loser in the playback contest, then the Lady Mustangs will advance to the state tournament.

The top two teams advance to the Class 4A state tournament at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center, 1701 Trinity St. on the University of Texas at Austin campus, April 29-30.
