Burnet girls lose first district game; Lady Dawgs now tied with Brownwood
BROWNWOOD — The Burnet High School girls basketball team suffered its first loss in District 8-3A play, a 37-28 decision against Brownwood.
The Lady Lions split the season series and are now tied for first place with the Lady Dawgs.
“We made too many mistakes to win on the road,” Burnet head coach Mike Cavender said. “We were in foul trouble most of the night.”
The score was tied at 26-26 with six minutes left in the game when a Burnet starter fouled out and missed the rest of the game.
The Lady Dawgs trailed 8-5 after the first quarter and 17-9 at the half. But in the third period, Burnet roared back to trim the deficit to 26-22. Burnet only scored four points in the final quarter.
“With all the adversity throughout the game, we still had multiple chances to pull it out at the end but could only find two points in the last six minutes of play,” Cavender said.
Burnet shot a total of four free throws; Brownwood was 16-of-24 from the foul line.
