FROM STAFF REPORTS

AUSTIN — The Marble Falls High School boys basketball team suffered a 55-47 loss to Austin St. Andrew’s on Jan. 22.

The Mustangs had a 14-8 lead after the first period that went to 27-20 at the half. But St. Andrew’s responded by outscoring Marble Falls 16-8 in the third.

Marble Falls head coach Neil Laminack said playing in a nondistrict game, regardless of the outcome, greatly benefitted his team.

Had the Mustangs won, it would have been nice to take some momentum into the District 25-4A showdown against Cedar Park on Jan. 25.

But a loss also allows the players to get rid of their mistakes before taking on Cedar Park, he said.

“Let’s get it out of our systems,” he said. “I think we played pretty well, but I think we were down a little. … It’s better to have it in that situation than in a district game.”

Marble Falls has been playing well lately, he said. But three players fouled out, including two starters, which meant asking more out of the remaining Mustangs, he said.

Laminack summed up the night: “It was the perfect storm.”
