BURNET — Hays Consolidated’s hot start in the first quarter cooled the Burnet High School boys basketball team in the Rebels’ 49-35 win Dec. 18.
Hays Consolidated took a 15-9 lead after the opening period and ended the game by outscoring the Bulldogs 18-9. Burnet didn’t score a point for three minutes in the final quarter.

"We have to improve our defense if we’re going to play with people," Burnet head coach Roy Kiser said.
Offensively, the Bulldogs slowed the pace of the game to give junior post Clayton Baumgart time to decide what to do with the ball.
"They played zone, and they switched the defenses around a lot," Kiser said. "We were pretty patient, and I was proud of that. We got good looks and got baskets."
ON OFFENSE: Points – Baumgart 18, Chase Mardis 4, Jai Patel 4, Caleb Cardozo 4, Trenton Hafley 2, Colton Stevens 1
QUOTABLE: "This is the first game where people took things away from us, and we didn’t respond. We didn’t make the right pass out of whatever they took away from us," Burnet head coach Roy Kiser said.
