SMITHVILLE — The Marble Falls High School boys basketball team defeated Katy Pope John Paul XXIII 62-48 to win the consolation championship at the fifth annual Tiger Classic on Dec. 15.
"Best complete game we played just from start to finish," Mustangs head coach Neil Laminack said. "We played games where we played a good quarter or a good half."
The key was how the Mustangs valued their possessions, he said, by holding the ball for a minute before working the ball inside to senior post Rey Baltazar and allowing him to finish the possession with a high-percentage shot.
"We’d make runs where we protected the run," the coach said.
Baltazar and Joey Blackledge were named to the all-tournament team.
