Mustang golfers compete in windy Vandegrift Invitational
LAKEWAY — The Marble Falls High School golf team returned to the links at the Leander Vandegrift Invitational on Nov. 9-10 after last playing in October.
The Mustangs finished 18th at the tournament after struggling with the wind during the two-day event, head coach Lonnie Tackitt said.
"We played well at times but then had the disaster holes that really hurt our scores," he said.
But on the second day, Tackitt saw his players make the necessary adjustments.
"We talked about hitting their shots with the right trajectory," he said. "We did not think about what the wind would do to their shots the first day but did much better the second day."
Even after the adjustments Marble Falls suffered some bad holes, he said, that resulted in losing at least 17 strokes to par on the last three holes.
"So, we have to learn to finish the round strong and not our focus," Tackitt said.
RESULTS: Ben Mezger 93-89–182; Jack Scott 93-89–182; Joe Portillo 92-92–184; Taylor Tackitt 101-92–193; Micah Wooten 96-99–195
