Faith Academy begins tennis season
MARBLE FALLS — The Faith Academy girls team has begun its quest to win its third straight state team championship, fifth overall under the direction of head coach Michelle Stallard.
The team is led by sophomores Savannah Still, Ashley Stallard, Sarah Thomas, Nicole Johnson and Teresa Bennett, junior Rebekah Graham and senior Jonelle Frazier. New to the team Ariel Blaylock and sophomore Joanna Piatek and senior Mercy Preston.
The boys are hoping to add a second title. Returners include sophomores Reagan Vaughn, Alec Gonzales, Luke Hering and Sean Lavoie. Newcomers are freshmen Kameron Alderman, Daniel Penner and Jed Draper, sophomore Michael Penner, juniors Brian Freeman and Brendan Cockroft and Chase Muller.
The Flames participated in the Llano tournament in which Blaylock won the girls singles and Still and Penner won the mixed-doubles consolation title. Lavoie advanced to the consolation finals in singles.
Stallard is entering her eighth year as Faith Academy’s coach and has guided several players to individual titles. The assistant coach is Todd Still.
