From tip-off, it was all Faith Academy as head coach Jerry English emptied his arsenal one punishing play after another.
There were defensive steals that took only one pass and two dribbles to turn into points. There were defensive rebounds that took three passes and four dribbles to turn into points.
When CASA did stop Faith’s fastbreak, guards Taylor Denton and Bailey Brinkley and forward Beth Ann Berkman made the Lady Rams pay by hitting five 3-pointers in the first half.
When the guards were covered, they found senior post Brooke Field, who was entrenched in the lane and scored easily.
Faith led 11-0 three minutes into the game that went to 30-4 by the end of the period. At the half, the Lady Flames led 51-14 thanks to shooting 52 percent from the field.
"I was pleased early," English said. "The thing that sticks out is the great shooting and the real good ball movement. I thought our shot selection was real good."
Nine of CASA’s points came from the foul line, while Denton and Brinkley each scored 13 points followed by Field’s 10.
The starters played until midway through the third quarter, and by midway through the fourth period every Lady Flame played.
Faith wasn’t outscored in any period.
"I thought our defense was good," English said. "In the first half, we played about as well as we’re going to play."
Brinkley finished with 18 points, followed by Field with 17 and Denton added 14.
CASA junior Zoey Ramos led with eight points, while senior Maria Colunga added seven and Brenda Ramirez finished with five.
Faith will face the winner of Victoria Faith Academy-Conroe Covenant Christian with tip-off to be announced.
