LEANDER — Looking for a win to even its district record, the Marble Falls High School girls basketball team headed to Leander Rouse for a fight Jan. 6.
In the end, the Lady Mustangs (11-13, 2-2) earned a tough 49-41 victory.
“The kids played really good defense and worked hard the entire game,” head coach Stephanie Gamble said.
Sophomore guard Sarah Stripling scored 21 points, but the game was sealed when sophomore post Haley Stephens sprinted across the floor for a layup on a throw-in. She scored and was fouled.
As a team, the Lady Mustangs were 73 percent from the foul line.
Senior guard Whitney Ulbricht dropped in seven points, while sophomore post Teagan Hall and Stephens each added six points, sophomore guard Blanca Fonseca scored four, junior guard Katy Bartels had three and freshman post Hanna Wall finished with two.
“It was a good, solid game by everybody,” Gamble said.
In addition, the Lady Mustangs were active on the defensive side. They recorded deflections and picked up the intensity.
