BULVERDE — After suffering some close losses, the Faith Academy boys basketball team showed resilience by earning a 46-40 win against Bulverde Bracken Jan. 6.

“It was definitely a team ef fort,” head coach John Berkman said. “They were flying around.”

The first half went back and forth with Bracken leading 12-10 after the first period and Faith (5-8, 1-1) gaining the advantage 22-19 at the half.

Berkman said the Flames had plenty of chances to increase their lead but couldn’t shake the Chargers.

“We missed some shots, we forced the ball,” he said. “That allowed them to stay with us.”

Bracken cut the lead to three points, but Faith scored enough to clinch the win.

Berkman said his players’ intensity increased.

“Our athleticism was keeping us ahead,” he said

Though the Flames weren’t capitalizing on the offensive end, Berkman said his players never quit. They began getting a hand on the ball, stepping in front of running lanes and making things uncomfortable for Bracken.

Sophomore forward Reagan Vaughn led with 16 points, while freshman guard Lucas Wright added 13, junior post Jason Byrd finished with nine, and senior post Casey Clendennen scored three.

Faith travels to Austin Waldorf, 8700 S. View Road in Austin, for a contest 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
