MARBLE FALLS — A strong start for the Lady Mustangs tapered off by mid-game in the contest against the Timberwolves Jan. 3, ending with a 30-39 loss.

Though the Marble Falls High School girls basketball team scored four points in the third period, Cedar Park High seized control for the victory.
The Lady Mustangs (1-2) led 12-7 after the opening stanza and 15-14 at the half, but Cedar Park High applied pressure on sophomore guard Sarah Stripling and never allowed her to get comfortable.
Meanwhile, the Lady Mustangs couldn’t find another player to pick up the scoring.
Stripling finished with 14 points. Senior guard Whitney Ulbricht added six and sophomore guard Blanca Fonseca finished with five. As a team, Marble Falls was 15 of 25 from the foul line.
"We have to have some people shooting the ball," head coach Stephanie Gamble said. "There’s too many people looking at each other."
Gamble said she thought her players took good shots with most of them inside the 3-point line around the lane. The Lady Mustangs, however, just didn’t make enough attempts.
"I felt like we held it a little bit too much and didn’t take the open looks," she said.
Marble Falls will travel to face Leander Vandegrift, 9500 McNeil Drive in Austin, 7 p.m. Jan. 6.
