Lady Mustangs winless at tough Mansfield tourney
MANSFIELD — The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team returned home without earning a victory at the Mansfield Rotary Invitational Tournament.
The Lady Mustangs (10-12, 1-1) lost to Ennis 55-30 on Dec. 28.
The event draws the state’s top teams each December and keeps track of how the invitees do throughout the season.
Marble Falls stayed with Ennis in the first quarter, dropping in 15 against 16.
But that changed in the next three periods with Ennis limiting the Lady Mustangs to two points in the second and three in the fourth.
Marble Falls sophomore guard Sarah Stripling led with 10 points, while senior guard Whitney Ulbricht and sophomore post Haley Stephens added four each, and junior guard Kaitlyn Naumann, sophomore guard Blanca Fonseca, sophomore post Teagan Hall and freshman post Hanna Wall had three.
The Lady Mustangs committed 18 turnovers and grabbed 17 rebounds.
But Ennis recorded five steals to five turnovers and pulled down 21 rebounds.
Marble Falls returns to District 25-4A play when it welcomes Cedar Park High at 7 p.m. Jan. 3 at Max Copeland Gym, 2101 Mustang Drive in Marble Falls.
