MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School tennis team’s loss to Leander Vandegrift on Sept. 30 was not exactly how head coach David McDonald wanted to prepare for the District 25-4A team tournament. But he hopes it will give his players some extra motivation.

The Mustangs lost 0-11 and got the sixth seed.

“We almost won No. 2 girls doubles,” McDonald said. “We lost 10-12 in the third-set tiebreaker.”

Freshman Madison Dyer and junior Kelsey McCasland are the No. 2 duo.

The Mustangs will face Dripping Springs in the opening round of the tournament 8:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at Cedar Park Vista Ridge, 910 N. Vista Ridge Blvd. in Cedar Park.

If the squad can defeat the Tigers, the Mustangs will face No. 3 Cedar Park High at 1 p.m., also at Vista Ridge.

The good news is Marble Falls already beat Dripping Springs earlier in the season when the Mustangs won every doubles match to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

The bad news is that dry lightning Sept. 27 forced Marble Falls and Cedar Park High to call off the matches.

“We were ahead in a few, but that’s nothing you can count on,” McDonald said. “If we play our best, we can do one of those upset deals.”
