Longhorn Aquatics launches Burnet swim club

BURNET — Longhorn Aquatics, a department of The University of Texas at Austin, will launch a new branch of its USA Swimming team at the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center on Sept. 29.

Registration and tryouts are 4-7 p.m. Sept. 29 and 8-10 a.m. Oct. 1 at the center, 1601 U.S. 281.

Longhorn Aquatics associate head coach and former University of Texas swimmer Mike Laitala will head up the team with more than 10 years of coaching experience.

Longhorn Aquatics is a USA Swimming Club Excellence Gold Medal team and has produced multiple Olympians.

In 2008, Longhorn Aquatics was represented by more than 50 athletes at the Olympic Trials.

Recently, Longhorn Aquatics expanded its programming to include a USA Water Polo team, in addition to the already successful USA diving team and US Masters program.
