BURNET — Two squads that suffered season-opening losses will meet in Gatesville on Sept. 23 when the Burnet High School football team faces the Hornets.

Since a 41-13 loss to Brownwood in the season opener, the Hornets (3-1) are riding a winning streak that includes a shutout (Mexia 31-0), an overtime win (Salado 35-34) and a double-digit victory (Glen Rose 24-14).

“They played some good teams,” Burnet head coach Doyle Walker said. “They’re a very good football team, and they’re very sound in everything they do offensively, defensively, special teams. They’re very talented, so we got our work cut out for us. And it’ll be an interesting ball game.”

Interesting because this game might be a clash of theories.

The Bulldogs (2-2) are known for their spread offense, but instead of having an air attack that keeps defenses on their heels, senior running back Demone Belmarez has engineered a ground game that has left opponents humbled.
