AUSTIN — The Texas House of Representatives recognized the Faith Academy girls tennis team May 24 for winning its second consecutive state title.
Lady Flames Jonelle Frazier, Sarah Mason Thomas, Ashley Stallard, Nicole Johnson and Savannah Still were presented to members of the house while several parents, fans and athletic director John Berkman looked on.
“Our girls tennis team was recognized for their success in tennis over the last couple of years with their back-to-back state titles as well as the individual state titles that they won. So they honored our girls state tennis team there at the House,” Berkman said.
Thomas and Still won the girls doubles championship, while Stallard captured the girls singles title and Johnson was the runner-up.
The four, all sophomores, make up the core of the team.
“So it could possibly be a three-peat next year and hopefully on to a four-peat the year after that.,” Berkman said.
