Marble Falls trustees eye district improvement plan, homecoming
“This is something we do every year that’s required by law,” Superintendent Ryder Warren said.
The board is also being asked to support traditional homecoming activities. The School Board session is set for 6 p.m. at Cold Elementary School, located at 1800 Colt Circle. During the September board meeting, the trustees approved the campus improvement plans. Warren said once those were authorized, Assistant Superintendent Cathy Gabro met with the District Improvement Plan Committee and began hammering out a document.
“She took those seven plans and develops a district improvement plan,” Warren said. “The committee also looks at the five or six district goals and applies them as well to come up with a comprehensive plan.”
The district is also looking into a strategic planning process which is more of a multi-year approach, Warren said. During the September board meeting, the trustees heard a presentation on strategic planning but decided to put off a decision until they could do further research. Warren said the difference between the district improvement plan and the strategic plan has to do with the scope.
“The district improvement plan is basically year-to-year. It’s the things we want to work on this year based on what we did last year,” he said. “With the strategic plan, we bring in people who help us develop a long-range vision for the district. The strategic plan is an overall, multi-year plan that looks at where we are as a district now and where the community envisions us to be in several years.”
Marble Falls High School staff will also ask the board to adopt a resolution supporting 2008 homecoming activities this week. Principal Allen Roberts will reveal the homecoming parade grand marshal and invite him or her to lead the parade Thursday.
The homecoming parade will line up starting at 5 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls parking lot, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive.
Warren said the proposed route takes the parade to a field behind Colt Elementary School where the bonfire will be held.
“The city has given us an abatement from the burn ban to have the bonfire,” he said.
The week culminates with the crowning of the king and queen at halftime during the Marble Falls-Lampasas football game Friday.
In other business Glenn Graham, assistant superintendent of business and finance, will present the district’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas report.
The Legislature required the Texas Education Agency develop a school financial accountability rating system in 1999. The TEA came up with FIRST which rates districts based on 20 indicators. The Marble Falls district earned a superior achievement. The board will also recognize high school student Sara Obermeyer for earning National Merit Scholar honors.
