Jimmy Lee Townsend, 73, of Burnet passed away at home Aug. 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Cuero, Texas, to Lynn and Dee (Jolly) Townsend.

He graduated from high school in Midland and attended Texas A&M University.

On April 29, 1990, Jimmy Lee married Betty Parks Taylor in Burnet. He worked as a machinist and retired from National Oilwell in 2013. He enjoyed nothing more than sitting on the back porch with Betty surrounded by their beautiful gardens and spoiling his poodle, Ginger.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Burnet; son, Jimmy Lynn Townsend of Walburg; niece, Debbie (Glen) Ewing of Cedar Creek; stepson, Roy Taylor of Lampasas; stepdaughters, Dana (Dan) Shriver of Eldorado, Shayne (Jerry) Cockrell of Walburg, Terri Taylor of Burnet and Beth (Tad) Rhyan of Burnet; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Jimmy Lee was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lynnell Prater; and nephew, Doug Prater.

His family and dear friends gathered Aug. 9 in celebration of his life.
