Jack Richard Hughes, 90, died Aug. 14, 2012. He was born in Abilene on June 15, 1922, to Perry and Myrtle Hughes.

He lived in the Baird area until he the third grade when his family moved to Kennedy. He became a Baptist at 7 years old and remained so until his death.

He married Jessie Benard on Dec. 26, 1942. The couple had sons Bobby in 1944 and Ricky in 1950 and daughter Jeanne in 1954.

He worked in the education field for 40 years until his retirement and lived on Lake LBJ until his health made him move to Chilton in 1999. He attended all the football games he could, sitting on the sidelines and sending words of encouragement to the coaches, especially when he thought they were wrong.

For his 90th birthday, he went with his son Ricky and daughter-in-law Twala to visit his other son Bobby and daughter-in-law Michele in Florida. It was after their return that he had an accident that would eventually lead to his death.

In addition to his sons and their wives, survivors include daughter Jeanne Roberts; grandchildren James and wife Jessa, Donna Barkley and husband Chad, Keith and wife Theresa, David and Cameron; great-grandchildren Erin, Kelti, Megan and husband Kevin, Ashton and husband Scott, Christopher and wife Nicole, Katie, Ryan, Maddie, MacKenzie, MacKayla, MacKeely and Rebekah; great-great-grandchildren Blaze and Braxon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Aug. 17 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373. A service is 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at the funeral home with Jack Whyburn officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.
