Tommy Allen Holmes
Tommy Allen Holmes, 64, died May 18, 2012, in Llano. He was born in Fort Worth on July 12, 1947, to William J.D. “Pete” and Dorothy (Rose) (Holmes) Headley.
He grew up in Colleyville, where he attended school. He was a retired welder and owner of Holmes Welding Co. He loved horses and rodeos and was active in bareback and saddle-bronc riding during his youth. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter as well as an advocate for wildlife preservation. He was often considered to be one of the last of the oldtime cowboys.
He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Survivors include mother Dorothy Headley of Hamilton; daughters Marla Holmes-Smith of Enterprise, Ala., and Amanda Zinsmeyer of Plano; son Tommy Holmes Jr. of Cleburne; sister Linda Gillespie of Rhome; grandchildren Dylan and Taylor Herd, Evelyn and Freddie Holmes-Smith and Cody, Zachary and Jennifer Holmes; and lifelong friend Shirley Holmes.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents Abe and Wilma Rose.
A memorial service is 3 -5 p.m. July 7 at Sammie’s BBQ, 3801 E. Belknap St. in Fort Worth.
