Bob Grimes, 86, of Meadowlakes died May 12, 2012. He was born in Cypert, Ark., on Jan. 26, 1926, to Joseph Marvin Sr. and Alice (O’Neal) Grimes.

He spent most of his childhood in Stephenville. He joined the Navy in January 1943 during World War II and was honorably discharged in April 1947.

On June 21, 1947,  he married Lil Julian in Oklahoma City, Okla. In 2007, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

He graduated from Drake University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He retired in 1981, after a long career with Agrico Chemical Co. and Williams Brothers. He and Lil then moved to Broken Bow, Okla., where they lived for 18 years.

In 1998, they moved to Marble Falls, where they spent their remaining years.

He was an avid golfer and very proud that at age 80 he could score his age. He found great joy playing golf with his wife and friends. On most days, he rode his bike through Meadowlakes, played golf or worked in his beautiful yard. When weather didn’t permit him to pursue outdoor activities, he enjoyed working with his stained glass.

Survivors include daughter Kathy Grimes of Burnet; sons Steve Grimes and wife Rose Blanchard of Austin and Joe Grimes and wife Tommie of Sulphur, Okla.; grandchildren Erika Lynch of Fort Worth and Tyler Grimes and Katie Grimes, both of Sulphur, Okla.; great-grandchildren Ryleigh Lynch and Brayden Lynch; sisters Missy Batchelor and Marjy McCoy, both of Stephenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brothers J.M. Grimes and Redus Grimes.

A memorial service is 4 p.m. May 14 at First United Methodist Church, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive in Marble Falls, with the Rev. Ellen Ely officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marble Falls Library Thrift Shop.
