Claude R. McClennahan Jr., 84, died April 5, 2010. He was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Dallas, to Donovan and Claude R. McClennahan.

Raised in Dallas, he served in the Army Air Corps and attended Southern Methodist University. After a brief time in the printing business, he became a real estate broker and developer.

In 1964, Claude R. McClennahan Inc. was formed and became the second largest real estate company in Dallas for a number of years. He was well-known for innovations in real estate, such as a condominium-type approach to converting cattle ranches into one-of-a-kind residential developments. The first such project was Tierra Linda Ranch at Kerrville, followed by eight others, including Wolf Creek Ranch and Lookout Mountain West in Burnet County.

With 53 years in real estate and 37 years in ranch development, he was considered an almost legendary figure in Texas real estate.

A longtime golfer, pilot and sportsman, he was a true gentleman and lived a life as big as Texas. He will be missed by many.

Survivors include his sister Margaret Tynes of Crescent City, Calif.; stepbrother Duane Fisher; sons Steve McClennahan and wife Janet of Kerrville, Mark McClennahan of Hunt, and Mac McClennahan and wife Rhoni of Marble Falls; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sydney; and sister Mary Ann Smith.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Claude R. McClennahan Jr. Memorial Fund, Victory Church of Highland Lakes, P.O. Box 475, Marble Falls, TX 78654.

Arrangements are under the direction of Edgar Funeral Home, 2105 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-7106.
