BURNET — Two members of the Burnet High School girls basketball program have been recognized for contributions during the 2011-2012 season.

Assistant girls basketball coach Doug Messer was named the Class 3A Assistant Coach of the Year, while junior Logan Skoog was on the list of Student Assistants of the Year, both by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

"Coach Messer does a great job of teaching, coaching and preparing the student athletes for success every day," girls athletic coordinator and head basketball coach Mike Cavender said. "The work ethic and positive influence that he brings to work on a daily basis to share with the student athletes in our program is amazing."

Messer was one of seven assistants singled out for the honor, while Skoog was one of 12. Both lists included Classes 1A-5A.

"Logan has a very meaningful place as a member of our team and program," Cavender said. "The time and care Logan has put into the performance of her job duties is what makes her a very special student assistant and asset to our program."

Cavender said this basketball season has been a huge blessing for the Lady Dawgs, who played in the Class 3A Region IV final in February.

"It couldn’t have happened without the spirit of Burnet High School, our community and the support of our fans," he said.
