BURNET — Several Burnet High School basketball players were recognized for their contributions during the 2011-2012 season by District 25-3A coaches.

Burnet senior guards Grant Cole and Leah Cotton were selected as the district’s most valuable offensive players for the boys and girls district teams.

Freshman point guard Riley Scott was named newcomer of the year on the girls’ side.

Senior post Jacob Pollard, senior guard Kati Maldonado and junior forward Bryanika Grady were named to the first teams.

Junior forward Jordan Barnard, sophomore guard Derek Kiser, senior forward Hillary Foster and freshman forward Sarah Poe were selected to the second teams.

Senior guard Demone Belmarez, senior forward Grant Guenther, junior guard Jai Patel and senior guard Casey Jo Stevens were honorable mentions.

In addition, coaches named senior guard Shannon Dyer, who missed the season because of health-related issues, honorable mention as a special recognition.

Barnard, Kiser, Pate, sophomore forward Caleb Cardozo and sophomore guard Trenton Hafley were named academic all-district.
