Catherine Virginia Collum, 74, passed away July 10, 2016, at her home in Meadowlakes, Texas, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Abilene, Texas, on June 4, 1942, to Melvin and Catherine (Holder) Collum, “Ginnie” spent her formative years with her family in Enid, Oklahoma. It was there she met and later married John Knight, USAF. Together, they had two children and travelled extensively, both nationally and abroad.
As an officer’s wife, she was integral in managing the household through many relocations. In 1976, the family moved again to Austin. It was there, as a single mother, she supported and inspired her children by attaining her court reporter’s license and her many years of excellence in her work for the State Board of Insurance.
In 1985, she married John Tryon and soon moved to Granite Shoals. She spent her remaining years enjoying the company of friends and family at her residence in the Highland Lakes.
She is survived by her son, Sean Knight and wife Rebecca; daughter, Catherine Knight and husband John Renfro; granddaughters, Hannah Faltesek, Zoe and Ivy Knight; sister, Leta Breyfogle; sister-in-law Linda Collum; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ginnie was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husbands and brother, Melvin Stanley Collum Jr.
Memorials may be given in Ginnie’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
At Ginnie’s request, no memorial service will be held, and her ashes will be scattered over her parents’ grave during a private family gathering.
