Mr. Joe Bob Simmons, 78, of Kingsland, Texas, died Nov. 7, 2015. He was born to Joe Hood and Wanda (Penny) Simmons on May 27, 1937, in Graham, Texas.

Mr. Simmons was a very meticulous machinist. Engineers would often take bets for how long it would take Joe to find the errors.

He loved his paper and read the funnies and crossword puzzles and would always wear a shirt with a pocket to carry cookies. It was very important for him to do the right thing, even if it wasn’t always popular.

He was a member of the Dukes Hot Rod Club and was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. He served six years in the National Guard and worked in the Armory.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Kingsland, whom he married on May 23, 1958; daughters, Penney Garrett and husband Mark of Kingsland, Donna Gore and husband Jeff of Silver Valley and Tammi Goins and husband Terry of Gatesville; grandchildren, Tessa Garrett of Kingsland, Lane Garrett and wife Christine of Austin, Addie Barnett and husband R.J. of Abilene, Molly Gore Merck and husband Danny of Abilene, Drew Goins and wife Lauren of Evant and Callie Goins of Gatesville; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Roberts of McDade and Janet Basey and husband Mark of Liberty Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008.  A funeral service is 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church, 19135 Texas 29 East in Buchanan Dam, with the Rev. Steve Leftwich officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park on Park Road 4 in Burnet.
