J.D. Bray died March 6, 2015, in Georgetown, Texas. He was born in a covered wagon near a creek bed in Girard, Texas, in Kent County to Jim C. and Bessie Jennings Bray.
J.D. attended school in Post and Tahoka. He finished the ninth grade, but did not return for 10th and 11th grades (at that time, there were only 11 grades.)
He is survived by his sons, Jim and wife Pat of Wills Point, Gary and wife Connie Bray of Georgetown and Joe and wife Cheryl of Garland; daughter, Janean Burton and husband Robert of Kingsland; eight grandchildren Sharla Deen, Donnie Bray, Greg Bray, Daryl Bray, Angela Afshar, Jaclyn Allsup, Randy Burton and Reid Burton; eight great-grandchildren, Korey Deen, Anna and Ryan Bray, Dylan and Hannah Afshar, and Carter, Ethan and Gage Allsup; sister-in-law Helen Bray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Griffin Bray; parents, Jim C. Bray and Bessie Jennings Bray; brother, Kenneth; sister, Jewel Bray Thaman; and granddaughter Pamela Bray.
A service was March 8 at the Buchanan Dam Church of Christ in Buchanan Dam with Tim Denton officiating.
