Linda Kay Twitchel Rose passed away Oct. 3, 2014, at her home in Horseshoe Bay. Kay was born July 12, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas.

She graduated Wyandotte High School in Kansas City in 1961 and moved to Abilene, Texas, to attend Abilene Christian College. Kay met David Rose just before the fall semester began, and they were married June 7, 1963.

Kay graduated ACC in 1965 and began her teaching career in Abilene.

In 1967, Kay moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil, and served six years in a mission program sponsored by the Churches of Christ. In 1973, she moved from Sao Paulo to Austin to resume her teaching career and developed a highly successful middle school reading improvement program. She retired from teaching in 2002.

Her professional memberships include the National Education Association as a life member, the Texas State Teachers Association, the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and Phi Delta Kappa, Professional Educator’s Fraternity. In 2000, Kay was awarded the Phi Delta Kappa L.D. Haskew Award for commitment to education.

Kay was active in the Westover Hills Church of Christ, and her mission travels included Guyana, Hawaii, Kenya, Russia and Brazil. In the early 1990s, Kay became a volunteer coordinator for World Educational Services, an exchange program for foreign high school students. She made trips to Albania, Brazil and China to assist students desiring to study in a U.S. high school and placed students in sponsoring homes across the United States.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, George and Oma Belle Twitchell.

She is survived by her husband, David of Horseshoe Bay; son, Alex Rose of Cedar Park; granddaughter, Allie Rose of Anson; sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Wendell Holeman of Kansas City, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law Doty and T.J. 1. I saw that Kay had passed away in the World Bible School brochure and looked up her obituary online. I am so sorry to have heard of this, however, am pleased to read about all her accomplishments. I had not seen her nor David since 1991 when David led a prayer at our UDC convention in Austin by her ACC roommate’s request (Priscilla). My brother lives in Round Rock and his married children in the Austin area.
