Howard D. Reed, 76, of Kingsland, Texas, formerly of Midland, passed away Aug. 7, 2014. He was born to James Moody and Sarah Lee (Taylor) Reed on Nov. 16, 1937, in Aspermont, Texas.

Howard proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965. He was a member of First Christian Church of Midland and the National Rifle Association. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, target shooting, cooking and working with his hands. He was a great animal lover.

Howard is survived by sons, Kyle Reed of South Lake and Howard Kuhl of Little Elm; sister, Jackie McKee of Kingsland; aunt Dorothy Kranz of Concan; niece Kathy Terry of Austin; nephews Bill Forest and James Forest, both of Midland, Lee Forest of Denton, James Reed of Burleson and Jason Reed of Denver; great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; and his very good friend, Ed Todd of Midland.

Howard’s worked at medical service companies. He was a director of marketing for Nurses Unlimited and the marketing director for Hospice of Midland.

Howard had an amazing singing voice from an early age and sang all around Midland for private and social events. One of his greatest pleasures was contributing to The Midland Reporter-Telegram’s Letters to the Editor section. He was a veracious reader and a passionate writer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Reed.

A graveside service is 11 a.m. Oct. 4 at Lee Cemetery, located five miles south of Aspermont on Highway 610.
