Winnell C. Hernandez, 71, passed away Sept. 7, 2014. She was born March 9, 1943, in Burnet.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and Memaw.

Winnell was loved by so many, including her cat, Molly. Every Wednesday morning, Winnell would get herself a newspaper, a cup of coffee and some donut holes and sit down on the couch to read the paper with Molly right beside her. She loved little projects of sewing and such. She enjoyed watching “The Price is Right,” “Family Feud” and, of course, “Wheel of Fortune.”

She was an amazing woman who had such a huge and caring heart, and she would help anyone when she could. She will be immensely missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing her.

Winnell was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Cornelius; brother, Kendall Cornelius; brother in-law, William Alvis Shaw Sr.; and nephew Gene Shaw.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Hernandez of Burnet; daughters, Dianna Hernandez of Burnet and Angela Smith and husband Joshua of Burnet; sons, Calvin Wilkes and wife Janice and Martin Wilkes and wife Ida, all of Cottonwood Shores; son-in-law Henry Chavez; mother, Mae Tondre of Buchanan Dam; sister, Maletha Shaw of Buchanan Dam; grandson, Taylor Dale Berryhill of Burnet; granddaughters, Jessica Smith of Pflugerville, Kristina Wilkes of San Antonio, Stacie Hammond of Kingsland and Alisha Wilkes of Cottonwood Shores; nephews Bill Shaw of Buchanan Dam and Chris Cornelius of Leander; nieces, Lori Ramirez of Bertram and Melissa Wills of Austin; great-grandchildren, Jacey, Gracey, Hailey and Braylon; and numerous cousins.
