MARBLE FALLS — It only took 10 minutes of watching Marble Falls High School senior Tyler Oppenheim play softball before Texas A&M University-Commerce coach Richie Bruister discovered a player who could help his program.
It took about that long for Oppenheim, an inside infielder, to realize she found her college home when she committed during the summer.
“I liked the coaches. The area is really nice,” she said about the school. “I had a great feeling. It’s a place I’d feel comfortable with.”
The Lady Mustang has been a member of the varsity squad for four years, three as a starter. She also plays for the Texas Bombers Gold South Texas team.
“I want to congratulate you on behalf of the athletic department and the high school,” Marble Falls High School athletic director Todd Dodge said. “It’s a big deal when one of us gets to play on the next level. You’re going to a tremendous place, and it’s the start of something new.”
The daughter of Kim and Allan Oppenheim plans to major in criminal justice with the goal of becoming a crime-scene investigator.
The athlete thanked those close to her for helping her.
“All of my teammates know how hard of a player I am,” she said. “Never give up. You have to practice a lot. Your teammates are who get you there. They help you push yourself. They help pick you back up. You’re going to have people knock you down, so don’t let that happen.”
